Introducing HPA Catalyst Groups

Catalyst Groups serve as collection points for smaller groups of members who have an interest in an idea or initiative not represented adequately in other segments of APTA or HPA. These groups are informal networks of individual members with a shared interest in exploring a topic or interest area relevant to the profession of physical therapy.

HPA supports Catalyst Groups by providing a group discussion forum and a group contact. HPA membership is not required for participation in a Catalyst Group. Please contact the group leader for additional information about the group.

Catalyst Group Information and Application Process

Pro Bono Catalyst Group • Group Forum

For individuals interested or involved in the development and maintenance of pro bono clinics and share information and resources in this area. Group Leader:  Jill Black, PT, EdD, Dr. Kate Crandell, PT

ADR, Denials and Appeals Catalyst Group • Group Forum

Medical review of therapy services is mandated for Medicare Part B services over $3700. In addition to these required reviews, there is an escalating number of audits for Medicare Part A services in the SNF and Home Health settings, Medicare replacement programs, Medicaid and private insurers.

Navigating through the ADR and appeal process can be confusing and challenging. In addition, sometimes the review decision, or lack thereof, from the insurer can be misleading and frustrating.

The ADR, Denials and Appeals Catalyst Group gives participants the ability to share their ADR, denial or appeals experiences. The intent is for participants to learn about the type of audits that are occurring in the therapy realm and to learn how their peers have handled related situations while maneuvering through the ADR, denials and appeals process. Group Leaders: Jaclyn Warshauer, PT and Ellen Strunk, PT, MS, GCS, CEEAA
