Call for Proposals
The APTA Section on Health Policy and Administration (HPA) Announces the continuation of our Research Grant Program. The instructions and application may be downloaded in PDF format above.
The purpose of the HPA Grant Program is to stimulate, encourage and support research activities that enhance the body of knowledge related to health policy and clinical administration in physical therapy.
The grants are intended to provide funding to assist HPA Section members who are new physical therapist investigators, or established investigators embarking on a new research agenda in health policy and administration. Through this grant program, the Section hopes to encourage the development of proposals that will seek financial support from external agencies.
1-2 clinical research grant awards of $5000-$10,000 are available to Section members to assist with a 1-year research study that investigates a question or questions of importance to health policy or clinical administration.
Proposals are due in early January of each year (see precise date below). Notification of the funding award would be by mid-June. Earliest funding start dates are mid-August. Evidence of approval from an Institutional Review Board must be provided before the funding will be released.
2011 Deadline for Proposals: January 7, 2011
Update on the Small Grants Program
The Health Policy and Administration Section is committed to fostering research on health services and policy. The research committee is responsible for spearheading several initiatives to help us stimulate and support physical therapy research in this area. The first initiative is our small grant program. The grant program was started in 2004 when the Section awarded its first grant to Rose Lopopolo and Sue Schafer to fund a national survey to identify minimum competency levels in administration and management. In 2005, the eligibility for the small grant program was extended to all Section members through a call for small grant proposals on topics related to HPA.
This is the 5th year of the small grant program. Thus, it is time for HPA members to begin preparing their proposals for the 2010- 2011 grant cycle.
The Research Committee looks forward to a great response and continued excellence in the grant submission process. Each year we've had a good response to our call for proposals which are due in January annually. The Research Section's task force for proposal review evaluates the grant proposals at CSM, and brings their funding recommendations to the HPA Board of Directors at the annual meeting. Grant recipients are typically announced after annual meeting.
The Board expects that the small grant program will support developing health service researchers in physical therapy and will provide seed money for larger health services related studies. Grant recipients present their research at CSM annually in the HPA Annual Health Policy Research Forum.
