Project management is a broad topic that deals with the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of any project you would like to take on.  The same sorts of tools we use daily with patient management can be utilized for larger project management.  With a project of any size, the key to success is planning.  Proper planning at the outset will prevent delays, move the program forward, ensure the project scope and successful outcome.  Having the correct people engaged in the process from the beginning and having the appropriate authority/permissions prior to the start of the project will limit frustration and wasted effort for all involved with the project.  While there are many tools you can use to be effective, selecting the correct tool for the job and utilizing that tool to the best effect will allow you to achieve your desired outcome.  Always remember to celebrate your successes.

Join HPA The Catalyst and Sue Jeno, PT, PhD, and Paula Eppenstein, PT, MS, to discuss the project management skills that you need and how to apply them in physical therapy!
